Is it a gaffe, or is the media being culturally insensitive?
So Bush called the Pope "Sir"
Being a Christian man, I don't think Bush meant any disrespect.
Being from west Texas and generally the south, the use of "Sir" is a greeting of respect. I know I use it often, specifically as an expression of respect.
Dear media,
Settle down, Beavis.
Regards,
Phel

He's also not Catholic... Bush that is... the Pope of course is Catholic.
Good point, Nick. Yes, the Pope IS Catholic. I likely would have made the same mistake. Although, I likely would have thought "Your Eminence, or Holy Father". My Mouth would have said Sir. Then again, I'm just a goof of a cheddarhead. Bush hasn't that advantage! ;-)
I had thought about putting the whole But Bush Isn't Catholic thing into the mix... but I would figure that most people would have that same question if not Catholic. That said, I don't know if any particular title would come to me at that point either.
In the end, he didn't say dude or hey you :)
Hey, Phel...didnt butthead usually smack the bejezus out of bevis after he delivered that line?
If only...
