That is Not For Us To Question

The city of Milwaukee hemorrhages cash. That's not news. I think we all know where the largest amounts of cash get flushed faster than the deep tunnel. Redevelopment, social programs, housing authorities. Accountability? No, we don't have that here. Those rules only apply to the relative universe known as Those People Out There Who Don't Work in the Public Sector.

The JS has an interesting little search engine. You can search a limited database of city employees, by name, for salary and overtime information from 2006.

There is a very, very interesting footnote, however:
"This database does not include employees who are paid by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee, the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee or the Milwaukee Economic Development Corporation."
Hmmm. How convenient. How very demonstrative and validating, too.

I'm a little afraid, although if things worked, I woudn't be

All that said, I agree with Fred's take on Mini McGee. I'm a little concerned. And I shouldn't have to be.

Daaaaayum!

Well there goes the phat navigator. There goes the pimp my crib on Lake Drive. Wait, that went a while ago.

Tim Brophy, meathead extraordinaire, will be funding up to $300,000 in payments to former tenants who were renting properties of his that had building code violations.

No surprises. I've talked to people who have bought homes from him. Jonque. If that's what he's selling, you can't imagine what he's renting out. But you all knew that. I'm not breaking any news here.

It's news that he's finally being made to make good on his exploits. We don't see much justice in this city. People don't get punished. If you want to be a crook or a famous architect who wants to do some of his/her crappiest work, ever, Milwaukee is a pretty nice location for you.

There is a little more that I will be linking to on this site in the next few days. Another story about him has emerged and I haven't had the time yet to look into the details and discern any link to the general taxpayer. Or I might just provide the link anyway and let you see for yourself.

If We're Going to Use Words Like Gutless

Then we need to start with Mayor Barrett's own administration.

His chief of peeps is signed up to a neighborhood watchgroup as Mayor Barrett. He responds to the group using Mayor Barrett's name, and says "Hi this is so and so".

So here you go to your email address and see an email from the mayor, and it appears that the mayor is responding to a critical issue. Nope. It's one of his "people" who lives in the neighborhood. Not the mayor who in fact, also lives in the neighborhood and could respond on his own behalf.

Or said unsaid person could simply sign up to the group as himself. Because why else would he have access to the email address? I mean, come on. I can respond on behalf of my boss. Power trip? Not thinking people will believe you if you respond as yourself?

Get a gut.

Flick'em - The McSenior Edition

Horses.Ass, originally uploaded by Tyrven.

Today's Flick'em is in honor of our community's very own Horse's ass. If you think about it, there is a striking resemblance.

And of course, it's one for Senior, and one for Mini. He isn't gray yet, but he is a chip off the old block.

The City Gave Us a Day To Respond?

UPDATE: Murphy actually pulled the vote as of this afternoon. I'm happy, but I can't say I'm surprised.

I received this email this morning from a neighborhood group that I belong to. Something sounds fishy here:
Help Fax or call and complain.

Letter sent to the neighbors only tonight!!!

The Mobile Station wasts to Convert the service bays into expanded Convenience store.

Neighbors are already concerned about the late hours.
Trash and garbage around the store, street and water damage from the auto wash, tax
payers, not the mobile station are paying for the repairs.

Late night loiterers, and the Noise!!!
and much much more.

Fax complaint to 286-2555
No Oral complaints will be heard
( the city gave us a day to respond)
written complaints won't make it in time.

Call Michael Murphy's office also, 286-2221

Moderator

If you want a copy of the Public notice call me me I will fax it to you
475-****"

Now does that sound right to you? The city agreeing that the station should be able to expand, and giving their neighbors 24 hours to say yea/nay?

Something seems... off.....
